A COMPANION…

While a guardian does take a personal interest in the incapacitated person, the guardian does not take the place of the companionship that family members should provide.

PERSONALLY LIABLE…

A guardian of the property acts on behalf of the incapacitated person to the extent of that person's assets. The guardian's assets do not take over when the incapacitated person's assets are exhausted.

A FOREVER PERSON…

The goal of good guardianship is to be able to restore the rights of the individual who has had some of them removed by a court after due process. An annual review and assessment will monitor the need for maintaining or terminating a guardianship and will alert the court to the need for potential restoration of some or all of the incapacitated person's rights.
